Our first installation was nearly 20 years ago when James Hardie Siding was first introduced to our market. We have seen the recommended installation guidelines change over the years and perfected our installations. Whether it’s proper flashing details to application of joint sealants, Louisville Exteriors has the experience to make sure your home stays well protected for many years.
What is Fiber Cement Siding?
There are various names people refer to when talking about fiber cement siding. Hardie board, hardie plank, fiber cement siding, cement board, and cement siding just to name a few. James Hardie is the industry leading brand that makes fiber cement siding. This is why no matter the manufacturer it’s still often called “hardie plank”.
Fiber cement siding is made up of a few simple ingredients: Portland cement, sand, water, and cellulose fibers. However, the formula will change depending on the manufacturer. James Hardie siding includes proprietary additives that enhance the performance of the product.
James Hardie siding bears a striking resemblance to wood, complete with texture and grain. Unlike traditional wood however, fiber-cement is impermeable to the most common forms of damage that threaten wood, including water damage, rot and termites. The boards are also specially designed to retain paint much longer than wood, without chipping or peeling.
Large Range of Styles
James Hardie siding is available in several styles with the most common being horizontal lap siding with a 7″ reveal and wood texture. Other options include vertical panels known as “Board and Batten” as well as shake.
Unlimited Color Options
In our area the most commonly used colors are from the James Hardie prefinished color pallet known as the Statement Collection. These are the most popular 15 or so colors that are locally stocked and most economical. James Hardie also offers a larger color pallet known as Dream Collection at a higher price point and longer lead times since it’s special order.
While all James Hardie siding and trim products are available primed and ready for field painting, when you invest in the prefinished ColorPlusĀ® Technology, you’re getting a consistent coat of proprietary finish that was baked-on in a closely controlled factory environment that helps resist fading from UV rays. That means even coverage and color that will last for years and years.
